The highly anticipated Top Christmas Toys list has recently been announced and a key trend is for toys and sets inspired by popular kids TV shows. One of the most favoured programmes is Ben and Holly's Little Kingdom and the Ben and Holly's Castle set has recently been released ahead of Christmas.

"Or crawl under the car to help me change the oil."

"I can stretch full out on the couch waiting for the school bus."

"And slip through the crack in the school wall when you're running late."

"Okay, okay," Chris says. "But that won't help when I'm older."

"Don't worry about when you're older. Enjoy yourself as you are."

"But what about Eddie?"

"If he keeps bothering you tell him to stop. If he doesn't I'll talk to his parents. But remember. People tease each other when they hurt inside. It's not about you. You're terrific and you always will be."

Help your kids be happy and focus on finding joy in themselves and others. Real beauty comes from inside. How your kids feel about themselves is far more important than their body shape, color, size, or ability. Find ways to help your kids feel great about themselves and everything else will fall into place.

Making Your Own Themed Invitations for a Pirate Birthday Party

Perhaps it was Dennis the Menace who first made a childhood obsession with pirates very popular. No wait... Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn loved to be swashbuckling pirates too. Whoever started the trend, children seem to just naturally go for the whole pirate craze. And what could be more fun to these children than a pirate birthday party theme? One could think of bringing in buried treasure, a colorful jungle bird piñata, party favors made of chocolates that resemble gold coins - your ideas are limited only by your imagination. But let's go to where all the action starts for a pirate birthday party - the pirate themed invitations.

One of the most popular kinds of pirate invitations, the treasure map invitation, can be a great mood setter. You can even make these on your own. You could start out with tan colored paper. You need paper that's colored this way to make it feel old. What will make it feel even older is if you are careful to burn the edges once you've made the invitations. If you can't find tan colored paper, you could pick up some regular paper and stain it on your own - with coffee grounds. You don't have to make every invitation exactly the same; they can be different from one to the other. Start with a sheet of black paper, yellow paper to cut into circles to look like gold coins and paper of another color for all the writing. All you need to do is to fold the paper up to form a kind of four-edged pyramid to contain the gold coins. If you are feeling a little extra creative, you can even have a few gold coins coming out to give the appearance of a spilling treasure chest. The party information itself is on a piece of paper that you glue on the inside of the treasure chest. Once the lucky recipient gets past all the gold coins, they'll find this piece of paper inside telling them where the party is.

Most children have a place in their heads where they go to when they day dream. For some children this is a magical place, where the grass on a hill is not green but constantly changing shades of reds, blues, mauve and green. Trees can be every colour - orange, red or purple. The sky is sometimes yellow, the rivers run in the colours of soft drinks and soda pop.

Personally, I'd find living in that kaleidoscope world forever a bit hard to take... but! If you'd like to help create a fantasy land for your child - and perhaps get away from the "Barbie" pinks and purples or "space" concept consider this.

Choose two similar tone paints as the base wall colours - a mid strength colour, not too pale. Colours to choose from include lolly pink, Wedgwood blue, lavender (make sure it is a "warm" lavender not a "cool" or "grey" tone), or warm rusty gold.

Paint two walls in one colour, the other two using the alternative you have chosen. Select a third paint - this time a much darker colour. Perhaps a mushroom, a strong dark blue, a plum colour or a very dark fuscia-coloured paint. Use this colour around the door frame and windows sills. It is your "trim" colour. For the very adventurous, you can play with the ceiling colour. If you are stepping away from white-painted ceilings, choose a very soft gold (a yellowy white) or a green-tinted off-white paint. At the tops of the walls, slightly running onto the ceiling, choose any of the non-trim paint colours to paint fluffy clouds. Aim for two to three clouds of varying sizes for each wall. At the base of each wall paint a "3-D" shape about a metre high - a different shape for each wall. In front of it paint a smaller version - for example, one wall may look like a stack of blocks, another maybe a mountain made of pyramids. About 1.5 metres up the wall mask a section about 120mm wide. Choose one colour. Paint this colour inside the masking tape around the room - like a thread that runs around the room. Make sure this colour is not the same as you base wall paint colours. If you have chosen to paint the walls in blue and pink, for example, the colour inside the tape may be gold or green. At the hardware store, ask your child to choose transfers for each wall - one character per wall. For example, a unicorn, alien, dragon, pirate, fairy or mermaid. Position on the wall so the character has some relationship with the shapes you have created. Choose accessories to suit the theme - hang a net in one of corner of the room where the mermaid is swimming; introduce a treasure chest to store toys in the part of the room where the pirate lives.

Hopefully, when you are finished painting the room you'll have created a delightful space for your children to dream, play, rest in and remember when they grow up.

Your frame size is the diameter around your chest, below your breasts. Measure
around your ribcage directly under your breasts.

2. Breast Size

Now measure around your chest, over and including the fullest part of your breast.
For larger breast, get this measurement while wearing a bra.

How the Measurement Works

1. Frame

The diameter around your chest below your breasts.

2. Bra Size

Add 5 to your Frame size. If the number you get is odd, round up to the next even
number.

For example, if your frame size is 20 inches, when you add 5 to this you get 25
inches. You should therefore round up to the even number, which is 26 inches (bras
only come in even numbers).

3. Breast Size

The diameter around your chest, over and including the fullest part of your breast.

4. Cup Size

The deference between your frame size and bra size, is used to find your cup size.

If your bra still doesn't feel right, the best thing to is to try on deferent
brands, and vary the size a bit. Make sure the bra strap doesn't cut into your
shoulders, and make sure your breasts don't hang out of the bottom, or sides of
the bra. The best rule is, if it just doesn't feel right, try another bra.

Bra sizes can vary a lot depending on the type of bra, and even the brand. The
best thing to do is go into the changing room, and try on a number of different
bras.

Once you find a bra you like, jump around a little to see if the bra gives you
the proper support, lean forward in the mirror to see if the cups keep your breasts
where you want them to be. A new bra should fasten at the middle or last hook,
because the material will stretch with wear.

The best thing to remember is comfort; a bra that scratchy or tight will drive
you crazy by the end of the school day.

Putting Together a Good Dress Up Box

Dress up boxes are a classic favorite. Children have enjoyed dressing up and playing pretend for ages - perhaps even from the beginning of time! It's exciting to be able to dress up and "become" somebody else for a little while. In fact, a good dress up box can keep your little ones entertained for hours!

Putting together a good dress up box is a great investment in your child's creativity and imagination - and it may just give you a nice break as your child plays for hours in his or her own little world of make believe.

Start with a sturdy container. A cardboard box can work, and can provide its own opportunities for play and pretend. Be prepared for it to eventually fall apart, however. A plastic bin or a wooden trunk may provide a longer life. A wooden trunk or footlocker can, like a cardboard box, present their own opportunities for imaginative play. Your child may pretend to have a treasure chest or be on a long voyage to some faraway adventure!

Next stock the container with "regular" adult clothes. Men's shirts, ladies blouses and skirts, hats, shoes, and other clothing you're done with make wonderful dress up clothing. Children like to dress up in the clothing they see their parents, grandparents, and other loved adults dressing up in. They can pretend to be mommies and daddies, teachers, and other workers

Also consider having a variety of colored cloths, scarves, and other open-ended accessories. Colorful silk squares or cotton squares provide a lot of room for imaginative play. Your children can tie them on as capes, use them as scarves, or an unlimited number of other uses. They can also be used to make "grass" or "water" on the floor for their play.

Most children like to play hospital, police officer, fire fighter, and other "everyday hero" games. You can find themed costumes for these occupations pretty easily at most toy stores, year round. However, one of the best times to get them is right after Halloween when you can find them on sale and a large variety.

Round out your dress up with a couple of fantasy play items - a princess's dress or a fairy skirt and wings, a knight's costume, sword, and shield will go a long way in the imagination of a child. Simple pieces can be used - you do not need to get items that are covered with all the latest and greatest characters for your children to enjoy them. In fact, their imaginative play will be richer and more varied if they're not stuck pretending the same movie over and over again.

As you can see, it's not hard to put together a basic dress up set. You can add onto it little by little, or put together a big box to surprise your little ones for their birthday! However you decide to do it, your child will love playing for hours, and you'll love some peace and quiet while they're having fun!

Clutter Control - Two Tips to Keep Your Home De-Cluttered

Clutter control: this is one of the main concerns that homeowners have. Everyone likes a neat and well ordered home - it helps create a sense of organization and calmness. It may sound simple on the onset, but when you have a large family, or small kids, or pets in the house, living in chaos is usually more like the rule than the exception to the rule.

And the fact that tidying up seems to be a never ending ritual can also drive anyone to distraction. But you can enjoy an uncluttered household, even in busy families, without spending every waking hour picking things up or calling in a professional organizer to tackle your daily disorder.

Here are a few basic tips you can follow to ensure that your house actually looks like a house... even at the end of the day.

Make sure that you "appoint" specific areas or containers for the most common clutter in your home. A very good example of this would be a toy box for your kids' playthings. More importantly, you can instruct your kids (or anyone in your family, for that matter) to do this for you which should lighten your household chores considerably. Make sure that there is one single cabinet or cupboard or wall / flat surface or container for your cleaning supplies, tools, makeup, your crafts, your hobbies, pet toys, etc.

It would also be good to enforce the rules - family members need to put things away in their designated places when they are finished with them!

Segregate and remove items from out of your home. More often than not, clutter control means filling up trash bins, recycling piles and giveaway boxes with all items you neither need nor want. Instead of giving in to your desire to keep things until you need them (which almost always never happens,) or store items that have sentimental value (which you do not care for anymore,) it might be an idea to remove these from your premises immediately. Toss junk mails and broken items into the trash or rubbish bins. Recyclable materials should be sorted immediately into their piles (paper, plastic, etc.) which should make it easier for you when haul these out into the recycling center later on.

Try to sort out the stuff you have not used for the last two years either into a donation container or perhaps into a pile you can sell at a local flea market (you'd be surprised at how much money some people make doing this). The bottom line of this clutter control rule is to: clear out as much unnecessary and unwanted mess from your home as possible.

Educational Apps To Make iPad Nursery-Friendly

A US toy firm has begun development of pre-school educational software applications for Apple's new iPad e-book.

The new 'apps' from San Diego-based children's educational toy company DANO2 use the iPad's touch-screen display to make the games more interactive and rewarding.

Their first game is Little Sky Writers, which teaches kids to write the letters of the alphabet by guiding a small aeroplane with their finger.

Guidance and amusing commentary are provided by the voice of Roger the air traffic controller, played by comedian and Nikcleodeon children's TV star Stephen Kramer Glickman.

The app was designed with the help of experienced nursery teachers and educational professionals. The developers claim that the game is so intuitive and fun that it reaches children long before a traditional school workbook can.

Design consultant for the game and California nursery teacher Diane Owen has been training teachers and teaching kids how to write the alphabet for some 30 years.

She says that she looks forward to using her "dream program for hands-on and kinaesthetic learners" this school year.

Ms Owen says that one advantage of Little Sky Writers is that it recognises and points out mistakes in pupil's writing straight away.

Ms Owen is piloting the software with a single iPad in her classes this autumn, but she has already begun applying for a grant to expand the number of the devices in her classroom.

She feels that it is a better and more affordable tool for students than traditional computers.

"My students are low income", Ms Owen says. "Many do not have the same access to technology as their higher-income counterparts.

"With this grant, not only will they learn how to write their letters properly, but they will also gain a crucial confidence with technology at an early age."

DANO2 vice president for educational development Lauren Monahan says: "Little Sky Writers gives kids who require a more active approach to learning a fair chance to develop educational success, and accompanying confidence much earlier."

Like Ms Owen, Ms Monahan, who was recently awarded a grant to attend an MIT conference on education and technology, believes that the iPad should not be viewed as an expensive toy, but rather an inexpensive computer - one who's intuitive touch screen display makes it the ideal tool for children.

DANO2 is a family owned company based in the town of Carlsbad in California. It manufactures all of its products in the USA using environmentally friendly, medical grade materials that are free from the plastics PVC, phthalate, and BPA.

The firm insists that all of its products are designed with input from education and health care professionals and are independently tested for safety.
